Screen – Monitor

Sometimes will you are working away towards some super tight deadline your computer monitor will just freeze up. No matter what you try to fix the problem you likely have to restart and lose all your data. Very frustrating and its happens quite often.

Besides the possible issue of having some sort of computer virus problem your computer could be suffering from some hardware related issue.

The first thing to check is often overlooked by people because its very simple. Make sure that your cables are installed properly if your PC and monitor are not an all in one unit (like an Imac). You should check that the cables are installed completely and also make sure the power connections are plugged in correctly. Often computer screens freeze because the cable is slightly loose and something makes it move slightly.

The second possible problem could be that your computer is over heating and that is causing your video card to not work properly. This is harder to determine but if you think that your computer fan has stopped working that can lead to your video card and other motherboard parts becoming overheated and they shut down. Your computer monitor will freeze up if your video card is not working correctly.

One special note regarding this problem from actually first hand experience. If you own any pets and your CPU is located to close to the floor your fan is likely blocked by pet hair. It would be a good idea to check out your machine and make sure the vent for the fan is not blocked.

The other possible problem could be the monitor itself but in most situations if the monitor power supply is faulty the screen would go blank. It would not freeze up with data still displaying.
