Causes
Overview of all the possible problems that could be causing your computer to freeze. Here is a quick check list of things that you need to review to help you determine what might cause your computer to freeze. Some of these problems are explained in more detail on other pages of our website depending on what might be causing your computer freezes.
Hardware problems
One of the first things would be to make sure all your cables (keyboard, power, monitor etc.) are connected properly and your power source is not having some problems.
The second is your computer power supply and the fan. Also check to see if your hard drive is working/spinning. Your computer CMOS battery might also be the problem. One of worst possible problems could be that your computer’s motherboard or the video card themselves have been damaged but this often happens if your computer gets overheated. So if your fan is not working this might have overheated some parts of your computer internal hardware.
Software problems
Here are some of the more common software related problems. Registry issues at start up, spyware or virus installed on your machine. Video drivers might be out of date or corrupted. New software might be causing new conflicts with existing software which is a common problem if you recently installed some software. Also make sure any operating system was installed properly and that the operating system was some bootlegged version which often causes problems.
Memory issues
Your computer might also hang or freeze if your RAM is not working or installed properly. Also if you start using some newer programs and try running different programs at the same time your computer might not have enough memory so it freezes up when you are working on it.
Another problem related to memory is if your computer hard drive is almost completely full. Your operating system requires some free space to work properly so if your hard drive is almost full your system will slow down to a crawl and often freeze up.
